Member Spotlight on Jen Laskey

If you have recently taken a look at our LIC CSA Facebook page, you might have come across Jen Laskey, the same way I did. She posted a fantastic written piece, titled, MY LIC CSA ROCKS!” (Could we get a better endorsement?), on her CSA share through a blog she writes for called “Frugaltopia.” She, along with three other amazing women, write postings about, you guessed it, frugal living. They share a wealth of different tips and experiences to live frugal lifestyles in NYC and that’s extended to food, cooking and includes sharing some tasty looking recipes.

Upon reading the posting, I contacted Jen, just in time! In what will be a fascinating journey, Jen was headed (she’s there now) to Italy, the Langhe & Roero areas in the Piedmont region, for a seven weeks apprenticeship with the winemaker, Malvira. Last year, while on a research trip with another food, wine and travel writer, Eric Duecy, to celebrate passing their WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust) advanced certification exams and visited with the same winemakers, Jen expressed interest in the harvest season. The owner invited her to return and experience it for herself this year. This time of year is great to return because it is the season for both the grape and white truffle harvest.

Jen is a freelance writer in New York who has written for many well known publications such as Fodor’s Travel Guides (Rome, Berlin, New York, New England, and Cape Cod), Everyday Health, Daily Glow, and Playboy. She has experience as an editor, producer and content strategist for print and digital media. She holds an MFA from Columbia University. You can read and learn more about Jen and her writing at: and

While she will miss the last remaining weeks of her share, her boyfriend will enjoy it on her behalf.

Enjoy Italy, Jen! The full posting that Jen recently wrote titled, “MY LIC CSA ROCKS!” is on the next page.
